Our school activity videos

In consultation with the Staff and Governors and in line with the Code of Practice (DFES 581/2001) the school has a SEN policy which has been implemented and is reviewed annually.

Children who have SEN are initially identified by the classteacher, who, in consultation with the SENCO takes appropriate action i.e. discussing the problem with parents, drawing up individual educational plans and seeking advice from Educational Psychologists and other support agencies as necessary.  These children are monitored closely and individual plans are reviewed and updated regularly.

At the beginning of the Autumn Term parents are invited into the school, to meet the new teacher of their children and to discuss with that teacher any problems their children may have.  Open evenings are also organised for the Spring Term, where individual targets are set for the children to try to achieve for the remainder of the academic year.

A vital part of our overall liaison with parents is the informal discussions which take place during the year. The Headteacher and staff are always willing to discuss your child's progress through informal discussion and also through an 'Open Afternoon' for Parents' which are held at the end Summer Term. This will give you a full opportunity to discuss your child's end of year report, outlining the attainment and achievement, parents are also invited to view the written work and view any art and craft work carried out by their children during the year.

Reporting to parents

Towards the end of Year 2, and in Year 6, children nationally have to complete S.A.T.s (Standard Assessment Tasks) which determine the levels they have attained in certain subjects.  These are done as part of normal classroom work during the Spring and Summer Terms.  The results are then notified to you in your child’s end of year School Report, together with their overall achievements during the year.  Opportunities are given so that the class teacher can explain to parents individually about their child’s progress.

Parent reading
The school has a homework policy.  Homework often takes the form of weekly spelling and multiplication tables.  Occasionally the teacher may ask the children to find out some information for Topic Work by looking through books and using a computer at home or at the local library.

We encourage the children to take home reading books regularly and hope that you are able to find some time during the week, to hear your child read.  This not only encourages the children but also shows them that both school and home are taking a real interest in their progress.

We consider that educating your child is a partnership between home and school and therefore actively encourage the involvement of parents in school.

This takes a variety of forms. Some parents are able to come into school to hear children read, or offer to accompany us on our Educational visits throughout the year. Other parents are involved by actively helping out at children's parties or Disco's which are held each term.
