If a child has been prescribed medicine by a doctor which has to be taken in school time, it can be brought into school, but it MUST be accompanied by a note which gives details of time it is to be taken and dosage.  The medicines should be sent to the office/medical room as soon as the child arrives at school.

Children who have minor injuries are treated at school.  Children who have bumps on the head are given a letter to bring home informing parents so that they are aware of the bump in case drowsiness, severe headaches or sickness occur at home.  All accidents are recorded in an accident book.
Parents will be contacted immediately if a child has a serious accident or is unwell at school.  When hospital attention is necessary every effort is made to contact parents; a record of home and work telephone numbers are kept at school for this purpose.
Parents are requested to notify of changes of telephone numbers and addresses.
When a change of clothing has to be supplied to a child it would be appreciated if that clothing could be washed and returned to school.

The school has a medical room.

The school has a nominated School Nurse, she carries out checks on children’s height, weight and sight.  Any problems can be discussed with her if you wish to come into school.

The audiometrician attends the school annually and is prepared to test any child who seems to be having hearing difficulties.

The dentist visits the school every year to examine all children.  Letters are sent to parents prior to the check for their consent.  Parents are advised by letter if their child needs treatment and appointments can be made at the dental clinic.

The aim of the School Nursing Service is to provide a high level of health care to enable school children to reach and maintain their full potential and not be disadvantaged by ill health.

Health care is delivered through health assessment, health education and health promotion.

The School Nurse is a registered nurse who has additional training and experience in child development and health education.

Any child, parent/carer or professional can make a referral to the School Nursing Service. Contact can be made at school or at the nurses' clinic base.

All referrals are dealt with in a confidential manner.

A health assessment will be offered to your child in reception year to check his / her growth development and vision. Parents will be invited to this assessment.

An additional health assessment will also be offered to your child in year 6 to undertake further height, weight and vision checks. These sessions also offer the opportunity for 1:1 health education.

Throughout the curriculum the children are made aware of various aspects of safety.  Much of this is done as part of National Curriculum activities but during school assemblies and by inviting in outside agencies such as the School Nurse, Police, Fire Brigade and Road Safety Unit we are promoting many aspects of safety.

The school carries out a fire drill at regular intervals to ensure both children and staff are aware of the correct procedure in the event of a fire.

By taking the children on short walks around the locality we are making the children more conscious of their local environment.

We hope you will support us in these ventures by not parking too close to the school gates both before and after school and by being aware of children crossing as you drive around the estate.
