Our school council is a group of children who have been elected by their peers to try to improve the school. They regularly have meetings to discuss ideas and complaints from other pupils. They take notes on what people have said and report them at the meeting. They think of ideas themselves to suggest to their peers.
Only one person can be picked from each class to be a school councillor, so a vote has to be carried. Candidates put up posters to say why they should be elected and give a speech to the class if needed. They sometimes give out leaflets, badges or stickers to encourage people to vote for them. The candidates would have to show that they are good speakers and good listeners to make a good job of counselling!
Our new 2009 - 2010 school council members have been working really hard on some new ideas that they hope you will find really exciting!
Find out what they have been doing and what the previous school council did last year by clicking the link below.
In the past, the school council achieved buying a water dispenser, and allowing water bottles in class for all children.
A tuck shop was organised and new playground marking meant a more exciting playtime!
In 2007 - 2008 the council helped organised activity days for Sports Relief and a Summer Fun Day. Collected/counted Tesco, Sainbury and Nestle tokens. Arranged that girls in Y5/Y6 changed for PE separately from the boys and had locks fitted to the girls toilet cubicles.
