Our school activity videos

On the 20th and 21st July Year 6/5 invited parents and carers to watch their amazing leavers production of 'The M Factor' .
This was an amazing production and showed the hard work of all the children and the staff by putting on yet another fine show this year.

We have had a great trip to the Pioneer Centre this year.  We were divided into 4 groups to do our activities.  The children did: high ropes, archery, fencing, rock climbing, abseiling, low ropes, challenge course, initiative games and caving! We all got together for a disco on our second night, where Sarjan and Sam kept us entertained!!! We had a great time working together and have lots of memories to take away with us!
We were so well behaved even the teachers enjoyed themselves!? Or maybe it was the delicious food that
made them smile!

Some of the parents of Year 6 kindly put together a Leavers Disco which they enjoyed until one or two children got sentimental and by the end of the night their were the usual tears and hugs!!!

lives - D'Eyncourt Staff.

On 28th and 29th  June, Years 3 and 4 travelled to Cannock Chase and tool part in some exciting activities at the teaching centre there.  We examine several stuffed mammals and discussed why these animals made their homes on Cannnock Chase.  We learned about their habitats and feeding patterns and discussed food chains on the chase.  The Rangers also took us on a treasure hunt through a copse where we used all our senses to help us solve clues and find the treasure!  This was great fun!  We all enjoyed a picnic lunch with our friends.  The Rangers also took us on a nature trail around the Chase, where we found several animal habitats and tracks.  It was difficult to see many animals because they had been frightened away by the sounds of our footsteps.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and many of us had a snooze on the coach journey back!

The Reception staff adopted a lion at Christmas from Dudley Zoo.  The lion is called Itar.  He is a male Asian lion, we are told he is the friendliest lion of the group.  On the 13th June all Reception went on a school trip to the zoo to visit Itar the lion.  The children had a lovely time seeing all the different animals.  They got to have a ride on the Land Train and a look around the castle.  The weather was so nice that they were able to have a picnic in the castle grounds.  A few weeks later, the children performed their class assembly all about the trip to the zoo.  They sang lots of animal action songs, held up paintings of their favourite animal and some children read out what they had written about the trip to the zoo!

As part of our Geography topic on comparing a town and a village, we visited Wednesfield Town and Claverley Village.  We walked to Wednesfield and saw lots of houses, flats, shops and different buildings.  We did a traffic survey outside the police station and found there were lots of different vehicles coming into Wednesfield town centre.  In Wednesfield it was very busy and noisy.  There was a huge choice of shops, a new library, a Sikh Temple
and a church.

A few weeks later we visited Claverley Village in Shropshire.  The Village was quiet and tranquil.  Our traffic survey only showed a few cars coming into the village!  The cottages were small and beautiful although they don’t have a front garden or drive, parking is a problem in the Village.  There are only two shops, a hair dresser and a Post office, however there are three pubs! Must be thirsty work living in Claverley…
We visited Year 1 and 2 children in the village school and our children asked them lots of interesting questions.  Some children come to school on a tractor!  The school is much smaller than D’Eyncourt.  The children found the school really interesting and they wrote thank you letters to them when they got back to school during the week.  After lunch we went to the church and had a look around.  The children were fascinated with
the beautiful stain glass windows.
The children have been able to express their likes and dislikes about living in both a town and a village.  They have also been able to identify features in both and how different they both are.  Two very interesting and enjoyable visits enjoyed by all of the children and staff!

All of the children in Years 5 and 6 were invited to design posters to the theme of ‘trees’ in the school category in 2011’s
Wolverhampton in Bloom Campaign.
The children worked hard drawing and painting their tree themed pictures, some of which drew their favourite tree, a forest of trees or an imaginary tree!  The bigger, the bolder , the better!  Talitha Harris was named the winner in the area and received £30 of Mander Centre vouchers!  Well done Talitha!

To celebrate the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton which took place on Friday 29 April at Westminster Abbey, D’Eyncourt held a none uniform day encouraging the children to wear clothes based around a red, white and blue theme.  The children were given the opportunity to be involved in a special Royal Wedding picnic prepared by the kitchen staff and also to purchase a helium filled balloon to let off after lunch in a mass launch, which was really fun!

The Royal Wedding Celebrations

In April Year 3/4 put on there performance of The Tudor Rose which was a historical musical play set in
two acts.
Act1: Concerns the life and times of Henry VIII from his childhood until his death in 1547.  The main events in his life are remembered by the ageing king by a series of flashbacks which are re-enacted through song.  His long suffering jester and his last wife humour him.
Act 2: Portray the events leading up to the Spanish Armada in 1588.  The action is split between Spain and England as Elizabeth I, Lord Howard and Sir Francis Drake plot to defeat Philip II and his chief naval  commander Duke Medina Sidonia.  Each act is preceded by a song leading up to the events of the story.

Our grateful thanks to:
Mr Horton for all his help with the music. Mrs Loftus for her dressmaking skills, we think you will agree she has surpassed herself this year! Also Mrs McAlpine, Mrs Davies,
Mrs Allen and Mrs Stephenson.

School Council organised a “D’Eyncourt’s Got Talent” competition for

World Book Day 2011
The main aim of World Book Day
(3rd March) is to encourage people to explore the pleasures of books and reading. On Thursday March 4th D'Eyncourt Primary School got involved with World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite Fictional character.
Here are the winners from each year group, but well done to every one that dressed up, it was very hard to pick the winners.

As part of their History topic Year 3 and 4 went on a visit to Oak House Museum in February. We have visited Oak House now on several occasions and it always seems to be a valuable learning curve on Tudor life.  The children are given the opportunity to dress up and role play for the day the life of the either the rich or the poor of the house hold.

Year infants were involved with a visit to Bantock Toy museum in January to bring alive their topic on toys
20 through the ages.
They were involved with various activities during the day including making a traditional peg doll.
School Council
Christmas Fair 2010

Yet again our school Council representatives successfully
organised a fund raising event on Friday 3rd December. The event was run during the morning and was open to all children and organised completely by the School Council.
Children from Key Stage 2 ran a variety of stalls and competitions to raise money for School Funds and School Council activities. This event has been running for the last 2 years and is becoming very popular enjoyable event with all our pupils.
This was also the day that Father Christmas joined us! Funds raised on the day were £325 pounds, so well done and thank you to all involved!
Christmas Play Productions

On the 8th and 9th of December Reception performed a wonderful production called 'Sammy the Snowman' which was equally matched with the talents in Years 1 and 2 with their production of the 'Grumpy Sheep' We would like to thank you for your generous contributions with buying production programmes and photographs – a total of £315 was raised which went towards the school funds and the price of costumes.

On Tuesday 30th November we held a World War II Day at school for all the children in Year 5 and 6. The children really got into the swing of the day by dressing up as evacuees to take part in the various activities during the day.
All the children made a VE day hat, bunting and a huge Union Jack flag.  In Miss Ford’s class the children experienced ‘Rag rugging’ and used various old clothes and materials to make a rug.  Mr Taylor held ‘air raids’ and as soon as the children heard the air raid siren they had to dive under the tables for cover!  Although pretty scary the first time, it was great fun!
Miss Williams was making War time food and the children had the opportunity to sample what food was like with rationing – some were yummy but others were not quite so tasty with lack of basic ingredients such a sugar and salt, though the carrot cookies were surprisingly nice! Lots of war time sandwiches were made, which were later used to eat at a mock ‘street party’.  During the afternoon, the children had two special guest visiting the school.  Mr and Mrs Campbell arrived to share their experiences of being children during WWII.  The children prepared questions for them to answer, which were very thought provoking and interesting. All the children valued the ‘real life’ responses and were extremely interested in war time life.

On a very snowy day in December year 5 and 6 visited Cannock Chases WWII museum for the day.  Here the children experience a drama exercise.  They dressed in traditional clothes and all had to act out different ‘War time scenarios.  Just putting the clothes on was fun!  The children also had a walk around the museum where they looked at different artefacts and had to wear special gloves to hold different items because they were very old and delicate!  We also had a mock air raid and we had to take cover in a Morrison shelter!  The children also had a look in the 1940’s room which was like stepping into a time machine! It turned out to be a very valuable day and a super day was had by all.

From time to time we are lucky enough to have a visit from the Animal Man. This gives the children a rare opportunity to get close to animals that they wouldn’t normally see in everyday life. Some creatures were more popular than others, specially the cute furry ones, but the children were fascinated to see and touch a variety animals and reptiles and of course the tarantula!

Animal Man
The parents of Year 6 organised a leavers 'beach party' toward the end of term which the children really enjoyed, even if there were a few tears at the end of the evening! Thank you Year 6 parents for all your efforts and
for supplying the pictures.
Year 6 visited the 'Poineer Centre' for a residential visit.
After 3 days at the centre the children had found out just how much fun the visit was. All the children loved the centre and were delighted with the activities, the bedrooms and the food! The children all has great fun taking part in the activities that included: caving, raft building, rock climbing, abseiling, archery, fencing, initiative games and high ropes. Some of the activities like the high ropes really challenged the children to overcome their fear of height, but everyone felt good about themselves when they had tried climbing the very tall pole!

School council started a gardening club this term.  It has been run by Mr Joe Taheri, who is the local School Council adviser.  The children have planted radishes, beans and sunflowers, as well as making beautiful pots with a selection of summer flowers in them.  The school council team did a great job of planting and watering… although they sometimes needed reminding!
It is hoped that the club will continue in the Autumn term.

Thanks to our parents and carers for their support with our book fair, we sold over £1,000 worth of books! Our percentage of the profit was around £500 which went towards buying books for our school.
We have had various family and school discos during the year and a very successful barbeque and thankfully no rain this year! Thanks as always to Mr Turner (DJ) for supplying music!

Sports Relief
We enjoyed keeping fit on Sports Relief Day. During the day we did lots of fun activities including using the huff and puff equipment, dancing, kick boxing, exercise videos, and lots of sporting activities out on the field.
The School Council organised a lovely treat of a fresh fruit salad at play time which helped give us the energy to jog around the field which was very tiring!

Egg Care Challenge Week - Barnardo's
Our school took part in an Egg Care Challenge to support the work of the Children's Charity Barnardo's. A fundraiser from Barnardo's spoke to the children in an assembly about work being done to help children, young people and their families. The children were offered the chance to decorate and look after a hard boiled egg for one week, while collecting kind donations from family and friends giving our school the opportunity to make a BIG difference to the children and young people being helped by Barnardo's. All children who returned their envelopes were given a special 'Thank you' certificate and a 'Barney' key ring. All envelopes returned were entered into a draw to win a special Barnardo's cuddly bear. Phoebe Potts was the winner in the infants and in the juniors it was Megan Webb.

The event was run during the school day and was open to all children and organised completely by the School Council. Children from Key Stage 2 ran a variety of stalls and competitions to raise money for School Funds and School Council activities. We had an excellent response from children and parents who sent in a variety of good quality DVD's, Videos, toys and books, not to mention the delicious home made cakes that were sent in and were hugely popular as by mid morning we were all very hungry! This was also the day that Father Christmas joined us! All in all this was a very enjoyable day for the pupils and raised over £350 pounds!

School Council organised a “D’Eyncourt’s Got Talent” competition for
CHILDREN IN NEED

on Friday 20th November. The children were really busy all week singing, dancing, reciting poems, telling jokes etc... either solo or as a group to try to go through to the finals on the Friday.

Going by some of the performances - D'Eyncourt really does have talent! It was really hard for the children to pick one finalist from each class to qualify for the Friday afternoon performance, where the whole school watched and then vote for their favourite act using electronic voting key pads.
To generate funds for this Charity we ask both spectators and performers to bring into school 50p, which gave us a grand total of £112 to donate to Children in Need!
Thank you for your support!
School Council.

The highlight of the day had to be our
X Factor panel of judges Mr Bull - Cheryl Cole, Mr Taylor - Dannii Minogue, Mrs Sozeri - Louis Walsh and last but not least Miss Williams - Simon Cowell! Thank you all very much for been such good sports!

WEAR IT PINK
Our own clothes day event for October was organised to support the
“Wear it Pink” Cancer Campaign.

School Council encouraged children to wear something pink to school on the 23rd October - even the boys!!

The 50p own clothes day donation went to this fund.

We also sold pink wafer biscuits at 10p each during playtimes on that day.

We raised £150 by the end
of the day!

At 11 o’clock, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we held a two-minute silence in honour of  those who died during conflict.

Remembrance Day
Key Stage 2 have been learning about the significance of Remembrance Day.
During PSHE, Years 3 and 4 learned what remembrance means, why poppies are sold each year, and what and who we are remembering.
Years 5 and 6 looked at the causes of the First World War, what life was like for soldiers in the trenches, famous WWI battles and how the war ended.
All the children in Key Stage 2 wrote either a message, poem or historical fact, which they wrote on a poppy for display on a class wreath.

In October we all walked to St Gregory's Church to celebrate Harvest Thanks Giving.  We began by singing a selection of Harvest songs which reminded us that this was a time for being thankful for all the wonderful food we eat everyday.  Reverend Colin then spoke to us, reminding us that there are many people in the world who are not as lucky as us, some have very little to eat.  He told us that the food contributions we had given would be going to people in need in our own community.

Fizzog Theatre Company
On Friday 23rd January a theatre group came into school and put on a performance that was all about World War 2. It was brilliant. They showed us what the war was like for children. At the beginning they were dressed up as old ladies and they were being interviewed by a girl who had been asked by her teacher to ask them some questions. They acted out lots of different scenes. It had some very funny parts and some sad moments. Lots of children thought it was very sad for the evacuee boy who came from London.
It was really scary when they put the siren on and the girl hid under the table. Some children thought the siren was too loud and it hurt their ears. It was really quiet in the hall when the siren went off.
The girls from the theatre company made us laugh a lot but it made us think that it was not very nice to be a child in the war. The funniest bit was at the end when Alexander and Sarjan danced with the ladies. Even the teachers were laughing. Everybody left the hall with a big smile on their faces and lots to think about. We were all glad we were not children in the war.
Some more children's comments: Sophie Matthews - I thought the play was really interesting.
I learnt a lot from it, the actors made it seem as though I’d travelled back in time.

Rhianna - The WWII show was really great. It was so funny when a woman was playing a boy with no manners and the old people characters were great. Some of the language they used we did not understand because it was old fashioned but our teachers are old and told us what some of the words were, like 'suck' which is actually the old word for sweets!

Miss Townsend says, ‘We are not that old, just very knowledgeable of the English dictionary!’

Many thanks to Susan Hawkins, Jacky Fellows, Deb Nicholls and Louise Stokes.

Keerthan - I thought the play on Friday was extremely funny. The best part was when they sounded the air raid siren, it was really loud!

As you know, Mr Arnold sadly retired as Headteacher last year and
we like to offer our best wishes and full support to Mr Bull

who filled the position in September.

The final week at D'Eyncourt last term was spent trying to show Mr Arnold our love, respect and appreciation for his long service to our school, pupils and staff.
