Dear Parents

I would like to thank our parents and carers for their support with our recent book fair, which raised over a £1,000! Our precentage of the profit will go towards buying books for our school. Hope your children enjoy their books!

We have started collecting the Active Kids 2010 Vouchers from Sainsbury's again this year. We would be grateful if you could tell your friends and family to collect them for us as well, this would be great! This scheme is well worth participating in as we have received some excellent sports equipment in the past two years which the children have enjoyed using greatly!

Also this week we have started collecting for TESCO vouchers too!

Reminder - Y2 Parents dinner on
Tuesday 9th March at 12.20

Parking
We are still experiencing some problems due to congestion at the start and end of the day. Could you please be as sympathetic to our neighbours as possible. We have also recently experienced a break into a car parked outside the school grounds while a parent collected a child from out of school club. Police believe this was a purely opportunist crime but asked to remind everyone to leave all valuables out of sight.

Barnardos
On behalf of school and Barnardos we must say a huge thank you for your support with this event. Nearly £3,000 was raised by yourselves a fantastic figure which reflects your generosity especially in such difficult
economic times. Miss Townsend will try and put some photo examples on the 'Events Page' after half term.

Pamper Night Thursday 11th March
We now have over 20 stall holders attending, come along and treat yourself. Tickets still available at only £1.50.

Computers for Parents
The Government have recently launched a campaign to try to ensure all homes have computer and internet access so parents and children can gain connectivity. The scheme is aimed at low income households and is targeted at children in our school in years 3 to 6 only. Obviously there are set criteria to match to become eligible for this scheme. School has no part to play in any of the funding arrangements, we have merely been asked to advertise it to parents and give them access to appropriate contact numbers.
If you are a parent and think you are eligible for a Home Access grant simply call the Home Access Grant Helpline on 0333 200 1004* to get an application form.
The money is there so see if you are eligible.

Dear Parents

We would like 2010 to be our healthiest year yet.  At D’Eyncourt we try to offer the children lots of opportunities to be active and encourage healthy lifestyles.  This was recognised by the Local Authority when we were awarded our “Healthy Schools” Status.
The school provides fresh fruit and milk in every classroom.  We are writing to you to ask that snacks and packed lunches ate as healthy as possible.
We have links on our website which gives guidance on how to
make a healthy lunch.
Snack time is only a 5 minute ‘brain-break’ for children to refresh before their next lesson.  Therefore 1 item of food is sufficient.  If children eat sugary or high – additive snacks their concentration is seriously affected – to say nothing of their teeth!  A piece of fruit or a cereal bar are an ideal snack.
Could you also please ensure that you do not send lollipops into school as there is a risk of choking.
I know I can expect your full support in this matter.

Yours sincerely

Mr P Bull (Headteacher)

As a school that supports the National Healthy Schools scheme which promotes exercise and a balanced diet we have added a couple of outside school acitivities which are run by long standing parents of our school and on occasions have given their time free of charge to demonstrate new and exciting actitivies within school on

Attendance
As you know it is vital that your child attends school every day that they possibly can. When your child is too ill to come to school you should inform us by a phone call or a message to the office so we know why your child isn’t in school. This policy is firmly in place and we thank you for ensuring we know your child’s reason for absence.
Each year we have targets set for school regarding attendance. We were close to achieving this target this year but missed it by a small percentage. In order to raise the profile of attendance the School Council suggested holding a class attendance award each week. The class with the best attendance for the week receive a trophy to display in their classroom. The children are really enjoying the competitive aspect of this award and look forward to the attendance results on Fridays.
In order to continue this push for the highest attendance possible, we ask for your support towards our target by keeping absences for family holidays during term time to an absolute minimum. This was the largest contributor to us missing our attendance target last year.
Many thanks for your support in this area.

In the case of holidays during the term time, advice from the Local Authority states that the first ten days of a family holiday taken in term time can be authorised, after this it should be unauthorised. Holidays that are longer than this stated time may need to be checked by the Governing Body before approval is given.
If you need a holiday form there is one to download at the bottom of this page or ask at the office.

SCHOOL SECURITY
As of Monday 28th September I ask for support in not bringing your children onto the playground, including the Junior playground at the back of the school.  Now the children have settled in we need to resume our normal practice of parents waiting at the gates leaving the playground for children and staff only.  This request is made to aid the safety of the children and to cause less distress when they are lining up.  The metal gates will be locked promptly so please ensure your child is on time.

Please Note: Our caretaker is instructed to close the gates which the children are requested to use to enter the school in the mornings, promptly at 9:00 am. If you are running late, but see the caretaker locking the gates at this time, please proceed to the main school entrance so that the secretary can add your child's name to the register for health and safety reason.

We request that all parents coming into school only use the main entrance and lobby system, where visitor’s badges can be distributed if a parent needs to enter the school. Here any issues for the office can be dealt with, and any appointments with staff can be made. We ask this so staff can be fully aware of who is supposed to be in school by the wearing of a visitor’s badge.
This will help us keep your children safe.

School Gate leading to Fairview Road
As many of you will already know the path leading to the back gate can become flooded at times of heavy rain. If this happens to the point where it becomes unsafe to use, we will have to close the gate. A sign will be put on the gate and children will need to be brought to school via the front gates. At the end of the day children will be told the back gate is locked and will be asked to wait for parents to arrive at the front of school. Whilst this may cause inconvenience, we feel it is for the safety of all who use the
Fairview gate.

Parents and Friends Association
Thanks to all parents who attended the recent cheese and wine evening.

Wear it Pink
Many thanks for your support on ‘Wear it Pink’ day we raised £150 for Cancer Chartity, a big well done to the School Council for organising it and to all children and yourselves for making a big effort to take part.

To find out more about this good cause click on the
'It's time to wear it pink' banner below.

PARKING
Once again we ask for your support in being sensitive with your parking when delivering children to school. Please DO NOT park on the zigzag lines outside school at any time of the day.  Please try not to block footpaths with cars and block entrances to local residents driveways.

The school is in the process of completing an Authority led School Travel Plan which attempts to address some of these issues.

You may have noticed that the Authority on occasions have sent out a traffic warden, whom may issue fines.

Thank you for your co-operation regarding this matter as the prime concern for us all is the safety of our children.

Also a reminder that we ask parents not to use the school car park, as this could lead to potentially dangerous situations at the beginning and end of the day. Can you please remind your children not to enter school on the road leading into school, but to use the foot path at
all times.

SCHOOL MEALS
Just a reminder with regard to the criteria for eligibility for free school meals under the new pilot scheme for 2009.

“From 2009 to 2011” Wolverhampton City Council will be piloting a two-year project extending eligibility for Free School Meals to all families on a low income (i.e. £16,040 per annum) that do receive Working Tax Credit . If you feel that you are eligible please either contact Pupil Support at the Civic Centre or “pop-in” to school and get a form from the Office. This scheme has proved to be very popular with families and we feel that they have not found it to be too intrusive.

CHANGES TO THE DINNER MENU
From September the School Dinner Menu will run on a two week basis and not the four that it has in the past. Your child should have brought a letter home with an sample menu attached. September will also see the reintroduction of Beef onto the menu.

DINNER MONEY

The daily price of a School meal has been set at £1.80 which means for the week the whole payment will be £9.00. As with last year we are stating that we will not allow arrears to accumulate beyond 2 weeks.

SORRY NO DOGS - EXCEPT GUIDE DOGS
Just as a polite notice, we have noticed an increase in parents/guardians bringing dogs onto the school site.  We would just like to remind you that this is prohibited throughout Wolverhampton Borough Council.  We would like to thank you for your co-operation as we endeavour to keep the school site clean and safe for all our children.  Mr P Bull - Headteacher

SCHOOL UNIFORM
A reminder that school uniform can be purchased directly from school or from Kid’s Corner on Showell Circus.

Please can I remind parents that in the interest of safety we ask for jewellery to be left at home wherever possible. Earrings should be of the plain stud sort only and we would prefer no nail varnish to be worn. Also in the interest of safety, children should only be wearing flat school shoes to school.

Perfect for Winter!
You can now buy reversible waterproof jackets and fleeces with
our school logo on them.

As a School which has gained the Healthy School Award, we have this week been promoting general health and hygiene.
If you haven’t already looked at the Healthy Schools NHS Link page please take the time to see how we have gained the Healthy School Status. Find out how to pack a healthy lunch box to ensure you child has a well balanced diet.  Find the link button to the new Government initiative ‘Change4Life’ that aims to help families eat well, exercise more and live longer and it’s really important to our kids’ futures.
Also on the page you will find the NHS Direct phone number and links to other important NHS services.

Bikes in School
Using funding from School’s Travel Plan, we have recently installed some bike racks in school. Children who are confident enough to cycle to school or are escorted by an adult may use the racks to secure their bikes with an appropriate lock. School cannot take responsibility for the security of the bikes or for the safety of the children getting to and from school. Extra seating and a cover have been put in place on the Junior playground as shelter for Parents dropping off or collecting children from school.
We hope these two initiatives encourage more children to arrive at school under their own steam!

Walk to School Week Thank you to those who took part in the ‘Walk to School Week’.
We hope you will continue to leave your car at home when ever possible to help your child receive valuable exercise and fresh air, also to help reduce your carbon footprint!
Walk to school

School dinner money arrears
There are still some outstanding arrears form the last academic term, could you please address these as soon as possible. For this academic year the school is adopting a policy of not allowing dinner money arrears to accumulate beyond 2 weeks. In the event of this happening your child will need to bring sandwiches until the due monies are addressed.

ADDITIONAL SECURITY - MAIN ENTRANCE FOR ALL ADULTS
We have been advised to provide additional security and have therefore altered the procedures for all adults entering the school.  We ask that all parents and adults enter the school ONLY through the main entrance.  This entrance now has a camera/code automation and a lobby has been created where queries will be addressed.

(Please note: It may be wise if you have small children to ensure they use the toilet at home just before leaving for school as you will no longer be able to walk into school and use our facilities through the playground entrances)

These arrangements mirror those of other primary schools and it ensures we are acting within recent health and safety guidelines.

Infant Parents.
Can we remind you that school finishes at 3:15 for the Infants. Please be on the playground/garden area behind your child's class ready to pick them up. We will not dismiss your child unless we recognise an adult assigned for pick up. We will not send them with a brother/sister who is at the school.

If you are late your child will be kept in the main reception area and you must come to the main entrance and be admitted into school to collect your child.

Year 3/4 will produce a performance in the Spring term and Year 5/6 in the Summer term.
